Seneca Valley Pony Club values our volunteers. We need volunteers to run our horse trials. Full day volunteers receive a T-Shirt or commemorative gift, lunch and snacks and a cross country schooling pass. Students are eligible for SSL hours.

Below is the general volunteer confirmation for the upcoming SVPC Horse Trials at 14401B Partnership Road in Poolesville. 

We could not run an official horse trials without our incredible volunteers. Volunteers who are working a full day at the horse trials will receive a small gift and a pass for cross country schooling on one of the schooling days at Bittersweet. Snacks will be provided throughout the day for volunteers and lunch will be provided for full day volunteers. Students are eligible for 1 hour of SSL credit per volunteer hour.


We will host the horse trials in rain or shine, so report for duty regardless of the weather.  Listed below are the times to arrive at the volunteer post for each area. At the horse trials, your steward and the event secretaries are available to answer any questions. Students will get the SSL form signed by the steward in their area. 

Please note that there is an Eventing Volunteers app for iphones and androids and volunteers can download the application prior to the event to view messages for volunteers and to check in and check out at the event. Stewards in each area will distribute volunteer gifts and lunches and/or lunch vouchers. 

For this horse trials we are following the USEF COVID-19 action plan and Montgomery County and State of Maryland rules and regulations. 

The COVID-19 plan allows fully vaccinated persons to not wear a mask/facial covering (non-vaccinated individuals are strongly urged to wear a mask) and recommends that  people on site be separated by at least 6 feet if they are not members of the same household. Please remember to maintain distance from others. We will have hand sanitizing stations throughout the site.

Where : Dressage Rings by sheds (just ask a parking attendant)

When : 7:20 am for scribes and warm-up people, 8:00 for runners. Report directly to Kellie Bickenbach. Last ride at approximately 3pm on Saturday and Sunday

What : scribes are in huts, so shaded. Warm-up volunteers and runners should bring sun gear, chair, bug spray, jacket if rainy.



Where : Meet at Stadium Scoring Stand (just ask parking attendant).

When : Saturday and Sunday 9:15 for scribes, timers, in-gate and warm-up, jump crew. Last ride at approximately 4 pm Saturday and 4:15 pm Sunday pm.

What : scribes, timers will be under tent, in the shade. Everyone else bring sun gear, bug spray, jackets if needed, chair if you want one.


Cross Country

Where:  Report directly to the start box (parking attendants can direct you) - you may drive there if you plan on judging from your vehicle. 

When : Saturday and Sunday, 9:15 am. Last ride at approximately 4:30 pm Saturday and Sunday 

What : You won't know if you are in the sun or shade until you get to the field so be prepared for either. Bring bug spray, sunscreen, a chair and drinks if you want -- although drinks and snacks will be offered to you during the day from the roaming gator team.

Late arrivals : Find your steward, Nellie Hanagan or Lauren McBain at Start Box



Where : In Assigned Locations

When : Dressage 8:00 am Saturday and Sunday until all scores are completed. Cross country 10 am to set up in tower for 10:50 am start.

What : You will be inside the scoring RV or tent or at the tower so shaded all day. Cross country scoring team will be active from approximately 10:30 am to 5 pm. Dressage scoring will work from 8 am until approximately 3 pm.



Where : Main gate on Partnership Road

When : 6:00 am Saturday and Sunday; Afternoon Parking Gate Attendants and Substitutes report at Noon. Mike Bickenbach. 

What : You will be on your feet much of the time. Bring sun gear, jacket if rainy, a chair for the slower moments.

Parking Shuttle

Where : Main gate on Partnership Road

When : We run shuttles as a courtesy to spectators and competitors.  

What : You will be driving a golf cart with a roof. Bring a jacket/sweatshirt (its surprisingly cold in the morning)  and a towel for the morning shift as the seats are wet. Please note we will have sanitizing wipes available for passengers to wipe down the seats. You may have people from different families in the cart while it’s moving (seating in different rows) but passengers are allowed to sit in a golf cart that’s not moving or congregate around the cart.
